Only one more month guys! I can’t believe how fast that went.
I’ve been looking forward to this trip for months now, I actually booked the tour last July so I’ve been waiting patiently (NOT!), and it’s finally here. Well almost, but a month I can handle. Specially because now I can start with my packing preparations, which I don’t allow myself to do more than a month before a trip, otherwise I would probably already have my suitcase packed and ready to go.
I did already make some plans for my first few days in LA.
I’ve booked myself on a direct flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles with KLM, which is an 11 hour flight. Did you know you now there is this thing now called a Light ticket? For flights departing to the US after April 10th, there is this new Light Ticket which does not have checked baggage included. Off course this is a cheaper rate, so the first one to pop up when searching for tickets. That was a not so nice surprise at the end of my booking process when I needed to pay € 80, – extra to bring a checked bag.
How does anyone travel internationally without checked luggage anyway?
My first two nights in Los Angeles, I will be staying in the HI Hostel in Santa Monica. It will be my first time sharing a room in a hostel, but since this trip is all about firsts (I’ve never camped before) I thought I’d give it a try and save some money on a hotel.
This Hostel is located perfectly for me to start of my vacation the right way with my feet in the sand, exploring Santa Monica and Venice beach doing this Airbnb bike trip and really get into the LA vacation vibe.
After that, I’ll be staying another two nights at the Freehand Los Angeles Hostel.
This hostel is located in Downtown LA, so great to get my sightseeing on and visit all the must see ‘instagramable’ spots. And I’m incredible excited to visit The Last Bookstore (book addict, Hello!), which is only a short 12 minute walk from my hostel.
On my 3rd full day in LA, I will be taking the Hike Runyon Canyon with a rescue dog trip which is such a great initiative as all the proceeds go the non-profit animal welfare organization.
Besides enjoying the beach, soaking up the nice weather, I want to see all the famous highlights like the Walk of Fame, Hollywood Sign, Griffith Park observatory, the LACMA,the Sunset Strip and ‘window’ shop on Rodeo Drive. I’m planning to visit Universal studios, do the Studio tour and off course visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (another little obsession of mine).
If you have any must do tips or suggestions, or know any great place to eat or show I must see, let me know!
Can’t wait to take you guys on this adventure with me.
